Mod Squad Before & After

I started working on Collette's room last week. The only instruction she gave was for her room to be more modern.  She was tired of the pink and green.  She had picked her wall colors before we moved in (read about it here).  I began this makeover by painting her iron bed a dark turqouise.  Then we changed out the bedding and hung artwork.

She loves it!  There is still a list of things to do: new lamp, rug, window treatments, etc.  But, I thought I would share the progress.  I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving Banner

We are hosting Thanksgiving this year.  Mr. TMD is the last of 9 children, so to say there will be lots of family and fun is an understatement!  I have been so busy trying to get the house organized after moving that I have not even thought about Thanksgiving decorations.  Our mantel was looking pretty bare, with the exception of some left over Halloween pumpkins.

I thought keeping the pumpkins and adding a banner would be festive.  I decided to make use of all the extra paint swatches I had piling up!

I downloaded some leaf templates and put my trusty assistant to work.

Collette has never met a craft or art project she didn't like.  So, after lots of tracing and cutting our mantel looks like this.

Enjoy your weekend!

I Spy With My Little Eye.....

A new......

Chair!  Isn't she cute.  Blue (looks darker in the pic) velvet with nailhead trim.  I picked her up at World Market.  They have 25% off all furniture right now - bargain! Here it is before the new girl.

Ok, still have to get some jazzy ring pulls for my file cabinet and do something to hide all the cords!

Going Mod Squad Update

I wrote about updating my daughter's room last week.  You can read about it here.  I have started by painting her bed.

It started out this sweet baby blue color.  I went to Lowes (their spokesperson is NASCAR's Jimmie Johnson - Collette & I are a little obsessed) and got the goods.

Yes, I know the top looks like the same baby blue - but it really is a darker turquoise blue.  I got it primed.....then came the rain.  :{  Hope you have a great Wednesday.

How Now Brown Cow

I went to Scotts Antique Market on Friday.  I was going to take more pics for all the treasures to show you all, but then I found this fabulous cow hide rug & now it is loving my living room.

Do you love it?  Should I name it?

I am planning on getting a sisal under it  - but I might just leave it as is.....thoughts?

Gallery Hopping

It is done!  I finished the gallery wall in our hallway.  Here it is before.

I took all the frames and outlined them on newspaper so I could move them around to figure out where they would all fit.  It is kind of like a jigsaw puzzle.  I didn't measure because I wanted it to look like it developed over time.  Also, I want to keep adding to this wall.

Finally Ta Da!

A Little More Mod Squad.....

My daughter, Collette, has requested a room make over.  Her instructions are for it to be more modern (which means lose the pink!).  She already selected the paint colors before we moved in and I knew the Maskros chandelier from Ikea would be perfect for her future mod squad room.  Here it is before.

The walls are Sherwin Williams Gleeful
The ceiling is Sherwin Williams Auaqtint (high gloss)
The closet is Benjamin Moore Rumba Orange

I have a long list of things to do and many ideas swirling in my head.  I think this is going to be a fun one!

Gallery Wall

I have stacks of black & white photos just waiting to be hung.

I love the look of gallery walls.

I have the perfect spot in the hallway.

My idea is to keep adding more photos over time and covering the entire space.  Now to find the hammer & nails......

Table Talk

Happy Monday.  I hope everyone had a great weekend.  So, now that the bench for the banquette is done - and I am LOVING it.

I decided that a trestle table will work best - the trick is finding one that is 60 inches long.  I scoured websites and my favorite Pinterest for ideas - with no luck.  I decided to try Craigslist.  I found a great source, Renewed Traditions, they make tables out of salvaged wood - any size you need.  It was just what I had in mind.  I love the look of old wood.  So Mr. TMD and I headed up to Alpharetta, GA to have a look see. (Renewed Traditions also sells at Scotts Antiques in Atlanta)

We could have stayed in their warehouse all day - it was full of treasures!

But this is what we came for

Love the X base - plays on my cabinets.

The only bad news....it will take 4 weeks.  But, it will be worth the wait :)

Sitting Pretty

I have always loved a booth or banquette.  We had a cool retro booth in our very first house and it was a blast.  Think about it, any time you have a choice at a restaurant between a booth and a table the booth seat usually wins - right?  We have a great space for a banquette in our very open kitchen/family room.

So, once I had this idea in my head I went immediately to Pinterest (the preferred drug of bloggers) to gather ideas.  Needless to say there were so many fantastic ideas.  I came across one Rachel did.  It is to die for.  Perfection! Needless to say I have been stalking her ever since.  Her banquette looked freestanding, but I wanted some storage under the bench.  I gave a picture to my carpenter.  Now we have this beauty.  I love the high back and the storage underneath.

Then it was a debate on fabric for the cushion

So here is the final product

Isn't she pretty?  Thanks Rachel  for the inspiration!  Now the hunt for a trestle table.

Office Update

Big progress!! Mr. TMD (Traditionally Modern Design) hung the shelves and I organized!  Love the orange storage pieces from Ikea.  They play on the orange cubbies.  Still need to get ring pulls for the file cabinet and a new chair - thinking blue??  But for now I am loving this area.

Hobo Halloween

I hope you all had a great Halloween and are all sugared up!  We carved pumpkins.  It is a fine art.

Requires intense concentration

And the results....

Trick or treat was different this year with the kids getting older.  Reed hung out with friends.  Collette a.k.a The Hobo went out on her on with her friends.

Alas, Mr. Traditionally Modern & I came home after the neighborhood party and ate handed out candy.   A good time was had by all.
