Thank You Young House Love

I have been on a quest for counter stools for our island.  It is larger than the one in our old house, so I need 4.  Here is what it looks like now.

I really like the industrial look and am slowly getting rid of the red in my decor.   Also, the kids want stools with a back on them.  When you are buying four it can get really expensive.   I was thrilled yesterday when I saw the post on Younghouselove.com about the stools they found.  I quickly copied Sherry & John and ordered up!  I can't wait for them to arrive.  Thanks to Younghouselove.com for doing all the leg work!

Barn Door Update

Last week I wrote about my desire for a barn door for our laundry room.  You can read about it here.  I really want oil rubbed bronze hardware, but it is so expensive.  Lucky for me my sweet brother in-law owns a powder coating business in NC.  Have you ever heard of powder coating?  It is so cool - the finished is baked on.   So, I bought some less expensive galvanized hardware at tractor supply. It looked like this

After being powder coated and thanks to my sweet sister outlaw  in-law for advising on the color it looks like this

Hard to believe it is not oil rubbed bronze - right?  Here is another post on powder coating.

Next,  Mr. TMD and I went on the quest for a door.

I could spend all day just dreaming up ideas in the salvage shop.

After much shopping - success!  We ended up buying a plain slab that is going to get a makeover.  Mr. TMD loaded up the door and it is waiting on my contractor to come jazz up and install.  Stay tuned.....this is going to be a good one.

The Dirty Laundry is Exposed

I love a barn door.  I think they are the coolest and had a great vibe to any house.  You can see some examples of ones I have pinned here.  We planned one putting on at the laundry/pantry area off the kitchen.  Here is how it looks now. (From the kitchen)

I had been on a quest for oil-rubbed bronze hardware to match the rest of the house.  It is SUPER EXPENSIVE!!  But, lucky for me I have a solution.  Stay tuned.......

More Christmas Cheer Around Here

The Christmas decorating continued, I think it is finally done....on to cards, shopping and remembering to enjoy the season.  Here is our mantel.  I did mercury glass votives with red and silver beads, some live greenery & of course stockings.

We also have Christmas frames that we get every year from Exposures.  It is always so much fun to see how the kids have changed over time.  We finished our tree.  I put on the lights, then the kids and I decorate while Mr. TMD sits and enjoys.  We always talk about where the ornaments came from or who made them.  It really is a memory tree.

What about you - homemade ornaments or all store bought?

Friday Finally......

It has been a while since I blogged!  I took off the week of Thanksgiving and had a blast with my husband's sweet family.  Then I had to head to NC because my dad was having surgery.  So, I am home at last and happy to be getting caught up. I am excited to decorate for Christmas.  We are going to get our tree tonight.   I love it when there is a live tree in the house it smells wonderful and really makes the house cozy.

Here are a few updates that I did in my frenzy to get ready for Thanksgiving.

Collette's room got curtains!  I bought the merete panels at Ikea.  I had my upholstery shop hem them and add trim.  I am so pleased with how they turned out.

Here is a closer look

Three windows under $150.00 for curtains, hardware and alterations - not bad!

Our table also arrived for the banquette (you can read about it here), just in time for Thanksgiving.  Here is a shot of that.  I need to darken my chairs to match it a little better.

Enjoy your weekend!
