Put A Little Heart Into It

Hope everyone had a great weekend.  It was a mad mad world here on Saturday - we had a fun Mad Men party - pictures to come later this week.  Here is a quick little make over I did yesterday.  


I picked up this ceramic heart at TJ Maxx.  It was on clearance - I am sure because of the ugly color!  

I pulled out some gold leaf supplies I had on hand and ended up with this.

Pretty cute now.  Reminds me of a chocolate heart candy - minus the calories!  Here it is sitting on top of a few books on the coffee table.

WOO HOO Happy Friday!! I am up for some fun and games today so join me in a game of tag.  I played this once before, but it is so much fun to do and get to know other bloggers.  This time I was tagged by Lauren over at The Cottage Mix.  She has such a fantastic blog and is a wonderful designer - you should definitely stop by and she what she is up to.  I am sure you will become a regular reader.

Poufs.  Love these patterns by West Elm.

Right now I would definitely go back to the Mad Men days of the 1960's.  Love the fashions and decor from that time.

6.  Favorite place that you’ve visited?

Mont St. Michel, France

7.  What place is on your “some day I’d like to visit” list?

I have 2 on my list - Marrakech

8.  Would you rather prepare a “gourmet” meal at home or enjoy one at a restaurant?

Dinner at our friends house, the Hurleys, it is like being at a top restaurant in the comfort of home - the best of all worlds!

9.  What project(s) are you currently working on around your house?

Oh, the question should be what aren't you working on!  Our master bedroom, family room, porches.......to name a few.

10.   If you have the house to yourself, do you enjoy background music or peace and quiet?

Peace & quiet - with a 12 & 15 year old in the house there is ALWAYS music playing (and it is usually quiet good!)

Crazy Couch Wednesday

I of course seem to be in the mist of redoing something in every room in my house.  We renovated last year and my current family room furniture was not really working in our new space.  The family room and kitchen are all open - very different from our last house.  So, I ordered 2 couches from West Elm on Christmas day when a 20% offer showed up in my inbox.  They were delayed multiple times - until yesterday.  Christmas in March!! So, this is how my family room looks at the moment.  I have couches everywhere.  

Thank goodness Mr. TMD got back in town last night......I can put him & his muscles to work today moving furniture.

Bar Stools

I wrote here about scoring inexpensive barstools.  They are great stools and I love them, but I am not digging the industrial gray.  I have had the ol' Ben Moore colors laying out on my island for about a week.  Then I went looking at images.......HELP!

What is a girl to do? Color? Shiny chrome? Darker gray?

Around Here

It was a BUSY weekend around here.   We watched our son in his high school production of Hair Spray, cheered on our daughter at soccer and helped shine up our son for a dressy dinner dance!  I did manage to squeeze in a little work on my mantel and bookshelves.  Also, I finally painted the fish tank (who makes over a fish tank?) .......

 The purple was bugging me (3 years later I finally changed it!)

Spotted and Potted

I started my house tour series a couple of weeks ago before I went skiing.  I wrote about the outside and front porch here.  Since spring has sprung in Atlanta I had to spend some time outside yesterday - so beautiful! The empty pots on my front porch went from this

To having these great looking boxwoods.  I spotted a guy selling them on the side of the road in Atlanta.  They were such a good deal and were exactly what I had in mind.  I will keep shaping them until they are in a round ball.

Back To Reality

We had such an awesome ski trip to Montana.  The kids went back to school today and spring has sprung in Atlanta.  It makes me want to "lighten" everything up.  I am contemplating my bookshelves in our family room.  I feel like all of my accessories are too heavy and dark.  Here is how they look now.

I feel like they need more color (and look at that sad mantel - needs a little dressing up!). One of the things I am working with is that they are pretty deep shelves.  I don't want to cover the back because I love the wood planking.  I am thinking about wrapping some books in pretty paper (think color blocking).  Also, maybe painting a few things.  Trying to work with what I have.  What are you up to today?

House Tour Continues

Happy Friday!!!  I am continuing my house tour today with our dining room.  This room is pretty much done.....really did I just say that? Rooms are never really done.  I keep debating painting my sideboard or china cabinet, just because I am tire of the dark wood.  Also contemplating new lamps or doing something to the existing ones.  Here you go.
